Solving The Puzzle
Of Your Child
WELCOME
Do you feel like you can’t cope with your child’s behavior and emotional needs even after many interventions? If your child has been seen by too many professionals and received too many diagnoses and labels, I know how alone and frustrated you feel. I am here to help. I will evaluate your child with a dynamic, nuanced and individualized approach. I will offer practical and common-sense recommendations to families and schools that will guide your child to greater success and happiness. Most importantly, I will "get" your child.
Children are complicated and unique. They function differently depending on the setting; at school, at home, playing with friends. As a firm believer in understanding all parts of the puzzle, I will collaborate with you, with professionals and with other important people in your child’s life. I will offer support, reassurance, guidance and expertise for you and your child.
About
Sharon Kaplowitz
I’ve been evaluating children for over twenty five years. I love working and playing with children and I am determined to see their strengths along with their challenges. I work with the most complex and misunderstood children and provide support and reassurance for frustrated parents who don't know where to turn.
WORK WITH ME
Consultation
I meet with parents to listen to their concerns, get a sense of how they see their child and take a developmental history.
Evaluation
I meet with the child for one or more sessions in a relaxed and affirming atmosphere. Depending on the child’s needs, the evaluation consists of informal interactions (conversation, play) and targeted formal assessment measures.
Dynamic Evaluation Model
Traditional neuropsychological testing generates myriads of numbers and statistics which are reduced to labels and diagnoses. In the process, the child’s uniqueness and complexity can often get lost. I see the testing process as the starting point for understanding the whole child. I use customized assessment measures when necessary, but rely more on conversation, play and informal interactions to understand the essence of a child. In my dynamic model, I rely on the wealth of my expertise and experience to solve the puzzle of who a child is and what they need to move towards success.
Supervision
For early career and not so early career psychologists who want to learn how to interpret test results and write reports in a more integrated, nuanced, and clinically driven manner that moves beyond statistics and diagnostic labels.
